The liver does the unglamorous work — removing waste products, storing nutrients for timely energy release, and keeping the rest of the system running. BioHep supports it with 4800mg of artichoke leaf per capsule, standardised for a minimum 2.5% cynarin, alongside ten further botanicals, N-acetyl L-cysteine, alpha lipoic acid and silica — with choline carrying the one EU-authorised claim that names the liver directly.
Choline Is the Regulated Ingredient
Most liver supplements rely entirely on traditional herbal use, which is valuable but is not the same category of evidence as an authorised health claim. BioHep includes 85.8mg of choline per capsule, and choline contributes to the maintenance of normal liver function, as well as normal lipid metabolism and normal homocysteine metabolism.
That is a regulator-assessed claim, and it is the reason this formula is built around choline rather than around a single herb.
The artichoke does the heavy lifting on the botanical side at 4800mg equivalent — by some distance the largest ingredient, and standardised for cynarin rather than sold as an unquantified powder.
How Other UK Liver Supplements Compare
Milk thistle capsules — the default, single ingredient. Milk thistle is the best-known liver herb and there are dozens of own-brand versions. They are typically single-ingredient, carry no authorised health claim, and hold no halal certification. BioHep takes a different approach with artichoke as the lead botanical and choline carrying the regulated claim.
Holland & Barrett liver formulas — varied, not halal. Own-brand liver blends vary widely in composition and rarely publish individual doses. No halal or kosher approval.
Premium detox blends — expensive, often proprietary. Many use "proprietary blend" labelling that hides individual quantities entirely.

Is This You?
- You want a liver formula with a regulator-approved claim behind it, not just traditional herbal use
- You'd rather have 4800mg of standardised artichoke than an unquantified herbal powder

Questions We Get Asked
Does it contain milk thistle?
No. Milk thistle is the best-known liver herb, but BioHep is built around artichoke leaf at 4800mg equivalent, standardised for cynarin, with choline carrying the authorised liver claim. If milk thistle specifically is what you're looking for, this isn't that product — and we'd rather tell you than let the assumption stand.
Isn't liquorice a problem for blood pressure?
Ordinary liquorice can be, because of a compound called glycyrrhizin. The liquorice in BioHep is deglycyrrhized (DGL) — the glycyrrhizin has been removed, which is precisely why that form is used in digestive and liver formulas. If you have high blood pressure or kidney disease, it is still worth checking with your GP before starting any new supplement.
What does choline actually do for the liver?
Choline contributes to the maintenance of normal liver function — that is an EU-authorised health claim, meaning the evidence has been formally assessed. It also contributes to normal lipid metabolism and normal homocysteine metabolism. BioHep provides 85.8mg per capsule. The botanicals are included for their traditional use, but choline is what carries the regulated claim.
Why artichoke rather than milk thistle?
Artichoke leaf is standardised here for cynarin, its characteristic compound, at a minimum 2.5% — which means you know what you are getting rather than trusting an unquantified extract. At 4800mg equivalent it is by far the largest ingredient in the capsule, and it sits within a broader eleven-botanical formula rather than standing alone.
Food supplements should not replace a varied diet or healthy lifestyle. Consult your GP before use if pregnant, breastfeeding, taking prescription medication, or managing a diagnosed liver or health condition. If you have concerns about your liver, speak to your GP.
