Allergy advice: contains SOYA. The protein source is non-GMO soy protein isolate. Not suitable for anyone avoiding soya.
Most vegan meal shakes are one of two things: a protein powder with a few vitamins bolted on, or a calorie-dense weight-loss product padded with sweeteners and fillers. Shake Me Up is neither. It is a genuinely light, fortified meal shake built on non-GMO soy protein isolate — the most complete plant protein there is — with added vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre from chicory root. High in protein and fibre, low in saturated fat and calories, naturally sweetened, halal approved and made in the UK.
Why Soy Protein Isolate Is Still the Benchmark Plant Protein
Soy has fallen out of fashion in supplement marketing, which is a shame, because it remains the only widely used plant protein that is complete on its own without blending. Its amino acid profile is closer to whey than pea or rice, and soy protein isolate is the purest form — the carbohydrate and fat largely removed, leaving a high-protein, low-calorie base that is gentle on the stomach.
Chicory root supplies the fibre. It is a source of inulin, a prebiotic fibre that feeds beneficial gut bacteria, slows gastric emptying and sustains fullness — which is what makes this behave like a meal rather than a protein hit. Research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition confirms soluble fibre significantly increases satiety and reduces postprandial glucose response compared with meals lacking it.
How Other UK Meal Shakes Compare
Huel Black Chocolate — excellent product, ~£60+/month, not halal. Huel Black is the benchmark complete vegan meal product with a comprehensive micronutrient profile. It carries no halal approval and costs considerably more than Shake Me Up.
MyProtein Vegan Meal Replacement — sucralose, not halal. MyProtein's vegan meal option uses sucralose and carries no halal approval.
Slimfast and supermarket meal shakes — dairy-based, high sugar. Most high-street meal shakes are milk protein based with significant added sugar. Shake Me Up is dairy-free with no added sugar.

How to Use Your Meal Replacement Shake
Mix one serving into 300–400ml of cold water, oat milk or any plant milk. Shake well for 30 seconds, or blend for a creamier texture. Use it to replace breakfast or lunch when convenience matters, or as a nutritionally dense snack between meals.
If you need a soya-free option, PeaPro uses hexane-free pea protein with a superfood blend, and RicePro is the gentlest choice for sensitive digestion. Prefer vanilla? Shake Me Up Vanilla uses the same base.
Is This You?
- You need a halal approved vegan meal shake — Huel, MyProtein and Slimfast carry none
- You want a complete plant protein from a single source rather than a blend of two or three
- Your mornings are busy and you want a nutritionally serious breakfast in two minutes
- You'd rather avoid artificial sweeteners and added sugar in something you drink daily
- You are not avoiding soya — this shake is soy protein based

Questions We Get Asked
Does this contain soya?
Yes. The protein comes from non-GMO soy protein isolate, so this product contains soya and is not suitable for anyone with a soya allergy or avoiding soy. If you need a soya-free plant protein, PeaPro uses hexane-free pea protein and RicePro uses brown rice protein.
Is soy protein as good as pea or whey?
On amino acid completeness, soy protein isolate is arguably the strongest plant protein available — it contains all essential amino acids in useful proportions without needing to be blended, which pea and rice do not. Soy has taken reputational damage in supplement marketing, but the nutritional case for soy protein isolate remains solid, and the isolate form removes most of the carbohydrate and fat.
Can a meal replacement shake actually replace a full meal?
As a convenient meal substitute within a balanced diet, yes. The shake is fortified with vitamins and minerals and contains chicory root fibre for satiety, which is what separates a meal shake from a plain protein powder. It isn't a complete meal by UK Reference Intake standards from a single serving, and it shouldn't be your only source of nutrition.
Are meal replacement shakes good for weight loss?
They can be, used sensibly. This shake is low in saturated fat and calories with no added sugar, and the chicory fibre supports fullness. Replacing one higher-calorie meal a day while eating normally otherwise is a common calorie-controlled approach, and the protein content helps maintain lean muscle during a deficit. It works best alongside balanced eating rather than replacing every meal.
Food supplements should not replace a varied diet or healthy lifestyle. Contains soya. Not recommended as sole source of nutrition. Consult your GP before use if pregnant, breastfeeding, or managing a diagnosed health condition.
