The functional mushroom market has a transparency problem. Most blends list impressive species names without stating how much of each is in the capsule. Bio Mushroom Boost takes the opposite approach: five organic mushrooms with every dose declared, certified organic by the Soil Association, alongside astragalus root, acerola fruit and black pepper.
Why Soil Association Organic Certification Matters for Mushrooms
Mushrooms take up compounds from the substrate they grow on, so what that substrate contains matters. Soil Association organic certification means no toxic pesticides or synthetic fertilisers were used at any stage — and it is independently audited rather than a self-declared "natural" claim.
How Other UK Mushroom Supplements Compare
DIRTEA — strong branding, premium price. DIRTEA has done more than anyone to popularise functional mushrooms in the UK. The powders are well made and priced accordingly, generally as single-species products rather than a complete complex, and without halal or kosher approval.
Time Health / Rheal — good quality, narrower blends. Both offer decent mushroom products, typically with fewer species per formula and without the astragalus and acerola, and neither carries halal approval.
Supermarket own-brand mushroom capsules — undisclosed doses. Frequently list species without stating quantities and are almost never certified organic.

How to Take Your Mushroom Complex
Take 1 capsule, one to three times daily, or as required. At one capsule a day the 90-capsule pot lasts three months.
For ashwagandha specifically, ZenBlend uses branded KSM-66®. For higher-dose vitamin C, Bio-C provides 125mg per capsule in food form.
Is This You?
- You want to know exactly how much of each mushroom you're taking — most blends won't tell you
- You want certified organic rather than a self-declared "natural" claim, which matters more for fungi than most crops
- You'd rather buy one complex than five single-species products
- You need halal and kosher approved functional mushrooms — DIRTEA, Rheal and Time Health carry neither
- You want vitamin C from organic acerola fruit rather than synthetic ascorbic acid

Questions We Get Asked
What do the mushrooms do?
We can't tell you — and neither can anyone else, legally. Mushrooms and botanicals carry no authorised health claims under UK and EU law, so any product page telling you what shiitake or reishi does for you is going beyond what's permitted. What we can do is name each species, give you its Latin name and its exact dose, and be clear that the authorised claims on this product all belong to the vitamin C from organic acerola.
Why does the dose of each mushroom matter?
Because without it you can't compare products. A blend can list five impressive species while containing a token amount of four of them. Bio Mushroom Boost declares all its doses — shiitake 130mg, chaga 80mg, maitake 80mg, reishi 65mg, astragalus 20mg, lion's mane 20mg, black pepper 5mg. If a competitor won't publish theirs, that's usually informative in itself.
Is lion's mane the main ingredient here?
No — and it's worth being straight about that. Lion's mane is included at 20mg, one of the smaller doses in the formula rather than a headline one. If lion's mane specifically is what you're looking for, a dedicated single-species product at a much higher dose would suit you better than this complex.
How much vitamin C is in it?
12mg per capsule, 15% of the Nutrient Reference Value, from organic acerola fruit at 17% vitamin C. That is a supporting rather than headline dose — but it is what carries the authorised claims. For higher-dose food-form vitamin C, Bio-C provides 125mg per capsule.
