EU-authorised health claims

Uses permitted herbal ingredients and complies with UK Food Supplements Regulations 2003.
Intended to support digestive comfort and gentle cleansing as part of a balanced diet.
Always follow suggested use and drink adequate water.

A herbal colonics complex based on a formula by American master herbalist Dr John R. Christopher — ten active botanicals built around glucomannan fibre. Long popular with colonic hydrotherapists for use before, during and after treatments.

The Glucomannan Version of the Christopher Formula

BioBodyBoost carries two Christopher-based colonics formulas, and the difference is the fibre. Herbal Colonix uses glucomannan — konjac root fibre, which absorbs many times its weight in water and forms a viscous gel. Beet It Colonix uses sugar beet fibre instead, which carries EU-authorised claims for faecal bulk and normal bowel function.

Both share the same botanical backbone: rhubarb, burdock, cayenne, fennel, ginger, barberry, liquorice and dandelion. Herbal Colonix adds aloe vera leaf; Beet It Colonix adds clove bud. Many people alternate between the two.

How Other UK Colon Formulas Compare

Senokot — senna, pharmacy standard. A licensed senna-based stimulant laxative on a different regulatory route. Single herb, no fibre component, no halal certification.

Fybogel — psyllium, bulk-forming. The gentle first-line option — effective for bulk, but one fibre with no botanical complex.

Own-brand colon blends — varied, rarely published quantities. Most rely on herbs alone and few carry halal or kosher certification.

What's in Every Capsule

The fibre:

  • Glucomannan powder · from konjac root · a soluble fibre that absorbs many times its weight in water, forming a viscous gel

The ten botanicals:

  • Rhubarb powder and extract · Rheum palmatum · the lead botanical, used in both Western and Chinese herbal traditions
  • Burdock root extract · Arctium lappa · classical Western cleansing herb
  • Cayenne pepper extract · traditional carminative, used to reduce griping
  • Fennel seed powder · Foeniculum vulgare · classical carminative
  • Ginger root extract · Zingiber officinale · one of the best-established digestive carminatives
  • Aloe vera leaf extract · Aloe barbadensis · traditional purgative botanical
  • Deglycyrrhized liquorice extract · Glycyrrhiza glabra · DGL, with the glycyrrhizin removed
  • Barberry bark extract · Berberis vulgaris · berberine-containing traditional bitter
  • Dandelion root extract · Taraxacum officinale · the classic bitter digestive root
  • Bamboo silica extract · Bambusa vulgaris · natural plant silicon source

The formula is supplied as a proprietary blend, so individual botanical quantities are not published by the manufacturer.

How to Take It

Take 1 or 2 capsules, one to three times per day, or as advised. Start with the lowest dose and increase only if needed. Take with plenty of water — the glucomannan needs adequate fluid to work as intended.

Our guidance: this formula contains rhubarb root, aloe vera leaf and barberry bark, traditional stimulant botanicals. We recommend occasional rather than continuous long-term use, and that you avoid it during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if under 18, or if you have a bowel obstruction, undiagnosed abdominal pain or inflammatory bowel disease. See your GP if constipation persists.

For daily bulk-forming fibre instead, BioSlim combines psyllium, glucomannan and sugar beet fibre with live cultures. Replenish gut flora afterwards with BioTic 4 Billion.

Is This You?

  • You want the glucomannan version of the Christopher colonics formula rather than the sugar beet one
  • You'd rather have ten botanicals with carminatives than a single stimulant herb that causes cramping
  • You alternate between colon formulas and want a second option in the rotation
  • You need halal and kosher approved bowel support — Senokot and Fybogel carry neither
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, under 18, or managing a bowel condition

Questions We Get Asked

Does it contain senna?

No. The traditional stimulant botanicals here are rhubarb root, aloe vera leaf and barberry bark. If you specifically want senna, this isn't that product.

What's the difference between this and Beet It Colonix?

The fibre. Herbal Colonix uses glucomannan from konjac root; Beet It Colonix uses sugar beet fibre at 50mg, which carries EU-authorised claims for faecal bulk and normal bowel function. Herbal Colonix also contains aloe vera leaf, which Beet It Colonix doesn't; Beet It Colonix contains clove bud, which this doesn't. Both are based on the same Dr Christopher formula and many people alternate between them.

Isn't liquorice a problem for blood pressure?

Ordinary liquorice can be, because of glycyrrhizin. The liquorice here is deglycyrrhized (DGL) — the glycyrrhizin has been removed, which is why that form is used in digestive formulas. If you have high blood pressure or kidney disease, still check with your GP before starting any new supplement.

Why aren't the individual herb doses listed?

The formula is supplied by the manufacturer as a proprietary blend, so individual quantities are not published. We'd rather tell you that than invent numbers. Several of our other products — BioKlenz and Bio Mushroom Boost among them — do publish every individual dose.

Food supplements should not replace a varied diet or healthy lifestyle. For occasional rather than continuous use. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for anyone under 18. Do not use if you have a bowel obstruction, undiagnosed abdominal pain or inflammatory bowel disease. Consult your GP if constipation persists or if you take prescription medication.

Psyllium Husk

Use daily with water, often preferred in the evening or as part of a regular wellness routine.

Is this for you?
