Are gummy vitamins halal?
Only if the gelatine is halal-certified bovine, or the gummy is set with pectin instead. Unspecified "gelatine" on a label may be porcine, and should not be assumed halal without certification.
Gelatine gives gummies their texture, and it is made from animal collagen — most commonly porcine, sometimes bovine. UK labelling does not always require the species to be named, so "gelatine" alone tells you nothing about permissibility. Halal certification is what closes that gap.
Bovine, porcine and pectin
Porcine gelatine is the cheapest and most widespread. Not halal, not kosher.
Halal-certified bovine gelatine comes from cattle slaughtered according to Islamic requirements, with the supply chain audited. This is what a legitimately halal gelatine gummy uses.
Pectin is fruit-derived and sets gummies without any animal input — the route for vegan gummies. Texture differs slightly, and shelf stability can be more demanding, which is why it is less common.
The ingredient most people miss: carmine
Gelatine is not the only issue. Carmine — also listed as cochineal or E120 — is a red colouring made from insects. It appears widely in red and pink gummies, and its status differs from gelatine: many Islamic scholars permit it, most kosher authorities do not, and it is never vegan or vegetarian.

Yes — pectin-set gummies with no carmine. Check both the setting agent and the colourings, since a pectin gummy can still contain carmine.
Are gummies as effective as capsules?
Gummies typically carry fewer nutrients at lower doses, because sugar and setting agents occupy space that actives would otherwise fill. They suit people who struggle with capsules; capsules generally deliver more per serving.
